Challenging time to be a legislator

It is an intriguing, challenging, and yet sobering time to be a new legislator.
My experience representing the 40th Senate District began at a low point for Illinois. For the first time in our state’s history, the Senate voted to remove a sitting governor from office, closing a chapter of corruption in Illinois history. It ended with the legislature passing a shell of a state budget, leaving a $7 billion dollar fiscal hole. Many would say I picked the absolute worst time to throw my hat into the chaos of Illinois politics.
